My Story

After graduating college in December of 2022, the high of getting that degree that I worked so hard for & celebrating that, the holidays, and attending SEEK23 wore off quickly. Soon after that, starting professional life, navigating painful personal life changes, and realizing that I had no friends in my city led me to coping with discomfort & suffering with addictive, excessive scrolling on social media. I had always had a problem with smartphone indulgence for almost a decade prior to this new season of life; however, I didn't realize how much of a slave I was to this device until the beginning of 2023. I decided to fast from social media, music, and podcasts for Lent. What happened next?

Incredible, Indescribable Transformation with the Lord!

Transformation that led me to delete my Instagram & Facebook Account. I also got rid of my smartphone during the Easter season, and I never looked back. I have grown in so many ways and learned how to see God in the intricate aspects of day to day life. In the little things. In the silence. In the face-to-face relationships. Today, I am passionate about sharing this option of living free from hyper-connectivity, for the sake of bringing people closer to Christ in my little corner of the world

I am so glad you are here!

My name is Monica. I'm a proud Catholic, Digital Minimalist, and Texan (in that order). I am a cradle Catholic who fell in love with Jesus right before I started college at Texas A&M, where I continued to grow in my passion for sharing the faith during my time there. In my first year after graduating from college, I learned so much about the human experience when I took the Digital Minimalist plunge. I got rid of my Instagram & Facebook accounts, as well as my iPhone! I no longer had the ability to hide behind my screen. The peace, creativity, intimacy with God, and intentionality that is possible when you are unafraid to live outside the box is amazing. From prayer amidst all these changes in my life, the idea of starting Truly Present came to me so clearly. My desire today is to spread the joy and freedom that is possible!

The Mission of Truly Present

The Mission of Truly Present is to empower individuals to take ownership of their tech: the most subtle, unprecedented distraction from our Vocation, work, and spiritual life. The goal is to be a source of encouragement and inspiration as you strive for holiness & sainthood. The tools and technology that each person chooses to use is as unique as every person's calling, mission, and Vocation is! The goal is always the same: get closer to God & sancitification! Social Media, Smarpthones, and most major technology platforms are OPTIONAL, but oftentimes we live by default, not by design, in this area of life!
